Dr. Kai Udert has a background in environmental engineering and heads a research group on wastewater treatment at the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology (Eawag). He leads the BMGF-funded VUNA project, which aims at promoting dry sanitation by recovering nutrients from source-separated urine. The project is a collaboration of eThekwini Water and Sanitation, the Pollution Research Group at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich and Eawag.
