Joseph Magoya is Water For People—Malawi’s Capacity Development Specialist. He has worked with different NGOs in capacity building and community development in the water and sanitation sector, for both rural and urban areas in Malawi. Joseph has worked in the field of Water and Sanitation throughout his career  of over six years promoting the adoption of improved sanitation facilities and hygiene through capacity building interventions.

Joseph has been part and parcel of the team that has pioneered the development of pit emptying service in Blantyre-Malawi, using a manually driven pump called a Gulper Furthermore Joseph also coordinated the process of identifying and training of sanitation entrepreneurs in Blantyre peri urban areas, to be involved in the selling of improved latrines and providing pit emptying services.

Joseph as a Capacity Development Specialist ,has  also pioneered the formation of Eight Functional Water Users Associations (WUA) in Blantyre Peri Urban Areas, as a sustainable kiosk management institutions. These Water Users Associations are managing over 435 communal water kiosks in 21 Low Income Areas of Blantyre. Joseph  is a currently studying for a Masters Degree in Public Health with College of Medicine-University of Malawi.
