Nikiema, Josiane - International Water Management Institute, Ghana

Dr. Josiane Nikiema is specialized in the optimization of processes in fields related to Environment. Her areas of expertise include; 1) the development of processes for the recovery of resources (e.g. nutrients from wastes) and their safe use in agriculture; 2) optimization of biological processes (i.e. involving the use of biomass) such as biofiltration for effective removal of emerging contaminants such as bisphenol A, an endocrine disrupting compound, in industrial wastewater; 3) development, design and operation of low cost options of control of several groups of organic pollutants in the air (e.g. methane from landfills) and water; and 4) production of biodiesel from various vegetable/animal oils using chemical processes. She joined the International Water Management Institute in 2011, after having spent 3 years in Université de Sherbrooke (Quebec, Canada) as an assistant professor.
