Asafu Maradufu was born and completed his schooling in what is now the United Republic of Tanzania. He completed his bachelor’s degree at Trinity College Dublin at the University of Dublin and received his doctorate from Mc Gill University in Montreal, Canada. He taught at the University of Nairobi, Kenya and worked at the International Centre for Insect Physiology and Ecology. He has taught at the University of Eastern Africa, Baraton in Kenya for 22 years. He is married and has three grown children.
